The Wave of the Future?

Posted by james0235 on June 16, 2008

Fr. Z has an excellent post on the Holy Father’s recent trend of distributing Communion on the tongue to people who are kneeling.

How should people receive Communion? Pope Benedict sets example…again

And in a comment on another post on Fr. Z’s blog a reader writes:

Apparently, the Pope said today during Mass at a site in Italy:

“I am convinced of the importance of giving the host once again to the faithful directly in the mouth without them touching it” and “the return of kneeling during Communion as a sign of respect”

3 Years Ago Today – Part 4

Posted by james0235 on April 24, 2008

The day after his election, Pope Benedict XVI approved new procedures for the inauguration. He was formally inaugurated as Supreme Pontiff on April 24, 2005. The ceremony began with the Pope and the cardinals kneeling at the Tomb of Saint Peter beneath the high altar of Saint Peter’s Basilica — Saint Peter is considered to be the first Pope — to give him homage, and ask his prayers. Pope Benedict said, “I leave from where the Apostle arrived.” The Pope and the cardinals then went in procession to Saint Peter’s Square for the Inauguration Mass, while the litany of the saints was chanted, asking their help for the new Pope.

“My real program of governance is not to do my own will, not to pursue my own ideas, but to listen, together with the whole Church, to the word and the will of the Lord, to be guided by Him, so that He Himself will lead the Church at this hour of our history.”

“The external deserts in the world are growing, because the internal deserts have become so vast.”

“Pray for me, that I may not flee for fear of the wolves.”

(Homily of Pope Benedict XVI at the Mass of Inauguration)

Edit: I’m not sure why but it seems that about half the time I view this post the picture of the Holy Father above does not show up. If this is the case just click it to see the picture.
